Handmaids Hospital Ikot Ambang – Ibiono

CHALLENGES
The Handmaids Hospital was officially opened in 2008 in Ibiono in Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria. It is currently a poorly equipped 35-bed facility, lacking standard physical exam rooms, emergency unit, labor and delivery rooms, good laboratory, pharmacy, radiology unit and in-patient units. It has one long hall demarcated by walls to serve as wards for different genders and age groups requiring hospital admission.
The Hospital needs structural expansion and modern equipment. If physically expanded and well equipped, it would provide a self sufficient medical home to the poor people, especially women and children, who do not have the financial ability to travel to the city for medical care. It would also provide immediate emergency care to motor vehicle accident victims who travel back and forth through Ikot Ekpene –Uyo highway where the hospital is located.
We also need an ambulance and a steady source of electricity.
We need to expand our laboratory to better care for our patients.
